It is said Hollywood was one of they major driving forces of fashion through out Europe. At the time of the 1920's and 1930's, fashion companies would design their magazines of vintage sewing patterns based on the latest fashion of Hollywood. These were very powerful magazines for the underlying message was to tell the general public they could match the "LOOK" of the actresses/actors in Hollywood and by wearing them, the men, women, and kids hoped to "FEEL" like the celebrity's. Sewing patterns were very popular for any one person could make a "One and Only" dress or suit from these patterns. They would select one special fabric and start that original WWI era dress or suit sewing project.

During the WWI era, women had some challenges with clothes in the stores. (as some of the problems we still have today) 1. Clothes from the stores are made for the average size. 2. The cost of the piece. 3. One was forced to follow trend. The vintage sewing pattern solved these problems and it was a hit. One can take their measurements and insure a good custom fit for the clothing. Now, one could make sure the fashion look they had before having children was going to work with their new hips! Then, we have the cost benefit ratio. Me = [Time/Money] which is translated as "I have time, not necessarily money; it looks like I am going to make my own clothes." Lastly, if you were the one who liked putting together your own special look, you could by customizing the fabrics and adding a pleat here and there. Thanks to the sewing pattern for now we have clothing freedom!
